As the star of action movies The Town, Armageddon and Pearl Harbor, Ben Affleck is no stranger to stage make-up.
But there was nothing fake about the real-life black eye he was spotted sporting yesterday.
The actor's left eye was painfully swollen and bruised, looking as if he had sustained a nasty knock.

It is unknown what caused the actor to suffer the injury, although it is unlikely to be from boisterous on set antics.
Affleck is currently working on a as-yet-untitled Terrence Malick film, which is described as a love story.

Perhaps Affleck sustained his injury playing with her children.
Known to be a hands on father, the 38-year-old is often pictured carrying and playing with his two daughters.
He was pictured with his black eye as he left a party in Los Angeles with his wife Jennifer Garner and their oldest daughter Violet yesterday.
Jennifer, who recently starred alongside Russell Brand in Arthur, and Affleck have been married since 2005 and will celebrate their sixth wedding anniversary next month.
They had a private beach ceremony on the Turks and Caicos Islands in June 2005.
This week Jennifer, 38, denied that she was expecting the couple's third child, after reports her slightly fuller figure was due to pregnancy.
'The speculation is false, she is not pregnant,' her representative insisted.

Like her husband, Jennifer is very much a hands on mother, today she was pictured ferrying her daughters Violet, five to a library in Pasadena.
But Violet was clearly missing her and two-year-old sibling Seraphina, as she wore a T-shirt emblazoned with the slogan: 'Seraphina's big sister.'
Looking relaxed in a baggy blue shirt and drawstring trousers, the actress at one point gave her daughter a piggy back ride across the grounds.
