Morgan Leigh Sims, 33, has been charged with murder in the death of her husband Daray Vontrell Sims
A Texas woman who was arrested for killing her husband told police she was abused and shot him in self-defense.
Morgan Leigh Sims, 33, has been charged with murder in the death of 37-year-old Daray Vontrell Sims.
The couple, who have two children together, had celebrated their seventh wedding anniversary less than two weeks before the fatal shooting.
Authorities were called to the couple's home in McKinney at 6.36pm on Friday by Morgan's brother, who said she was 'arguing and fighting' with Sims.
Just minutes later, Morgan's mother called 911 and said her daughter had just shot her husband, according to the Dallas Morning News.
She told dispatchers that the couple's two children, aged two and six, were in the home.
Morgan's brother then told 911 that his sister had left the house in a black Range Rover. She was found by police several miles away from the home.

Sims died from multiple gunshot wounds, according to the Collin County Medical Examiner's Office.
He was found face down in the bathroom, which was covered with 'copious amounts of blood'.
Morgan told investigators that she had 'been abused, which caused me to defend myself,' the affidavit states.
Inside her Range Rover was a semiautomatic pistol with one magazine and a live round in the chamber, $9,560 in cash, a bottle of Xanax, and some Valium.
Also found were the family's passports and a wallet that held Sims' driver's license.
Inside the couple's home authorities found an empty container of disinfecting wipes, a bottle of cleaner, a plastic bag with a sponge, and a plastic bag containing wipes and two laptop computers, court records state.
There were also five sheets of paper with writing. Three were handwritten and two were typed. Authorities have not disclosed what was written on the sheets of paper.

Sims was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence in DeSoto, where the couple previously lived, in 2014. He was not indicted by a grand jury.
Morgan posted a Facebook tribute to Sims on the couple's anniversary on April 10.
'Happy 7 year anniversary! I wouldn't want to do this thing called life without you,' she wrote.
